Completed artwork for his seventh studio album, South of Delia.
In 2006 and 2007 I designed the cover art for Richard Shindell’s seventh studio album, a record of songs by other songwriters he admires. He was in Buenos Aires and I was in Rochester. It was my first important long-distance project, and we built the art out of email conversations about what the songs meant.
The images come from my first “drive project”: a camera mounted in my car window, firing every ten seconds on a drive across the country. The sequence covers a little over three minutes around Delia, Kansas, about the length of a pop song. The title comes from Josh Ritter’s song “Lawrence, KS.”
It was a pleasure to work with one of my heroes.
